Tag Team Waste
A 10 on 3 match featuring all the teams against The New Day. The title above says all you need to know. It was a waste, a complete and utter waste. Yes, Lucha Dragons hit some fun moves and Kidd/Cesaro finished the night on top, but is this really the best they can do with six tag teams? Even though the Elimination Chamber match intrigues me, few of these teams actually interests me at all.
I am not ready for a connection with Lucha Dragons, even though they are fun to watch.
The Ascension can only be interesting if they win, which they won’t.
Los Matadores are a complete waste. Talented, but ZERO direction.
Prime Time Players are entertaining, but they have not had a consistent showing on Raw weekly. They still have a few more weeks/months to really get back to being consistent enough to be thought of for the tag titles.
The New Day gets a reaction. Kidd and Cesaro are the best “team” in WWE. Put that together and what do you get? Two tag teams that are appealing and four that should not be in a match on a Pay-Per-View.
Is Kevin Owens Ready?
Before the debate begins, let’s talk about a nice moment on Raw. Zack Ryder gets a nice reaction and a US Championship match against John Cena. He has the Entourage guys in his corner. After a solid match, they all celebrate. As they leave, John Cena is attacked by Kevin Owens. He hits the pop-up powerbomb and stomps on the United States Championship.
Alright, John Cena vs. Kevin Owens is on Sunday. There is no title on the line. Kevin Owens’ first PPV match is against John Cena.
Is he ready? From a character standpoint and a development standpoint? Yes. From a roster standpoint? No. I want Kevin Owens on the main roster and want him to succeed. I am nervous that now is not the right time. If he stays on the main roster, who is after John Cena? Does he focus on Randy Orton? That would be very productive and intriguing.
WWE screwed by Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose last year, when both men NEEDED wins and ended up swapping them like teenage kids swap spit. It was sloppy and they were not prepared. There are not enough veterans for Owens to feud with. If you put him with some of your best faces, you hurt those faces. Roman Reigns is out. Dean Ambrose is out. Who else? Does he really need to be a guy that fights for an IC Title?
Kevin Owens is ready. Maybe the real question is this: Is WWE ready for him? If they are, he needs to be skyrocketed up the roster and not float around like some of their mistakes with younger talent over the past few years.
