Ronda Rousey is MMA’s top dog. But there’s no one for her to fight. She won her last bout in 14 seconds. She won her previous fight in 16 seconds.
Rousey was at WrestleMania, with The Rock, primarily to promote “Furious 7,” which features both. UFC impresario Dana White was in on it. He and Ronda Rousey have too much money to make to already be at cross-purposes.
But the confrontation between HHH/Stephanie and Rock/Rousey sure seemed to be setting up a match, perhaps at next year’s ‘Mania. Would White allow that? Rousey just signed a new multi-year contract with UFC.
If Ronda Rousey does one WWE match and one match only, that would be mutually beneficial. Rousey is exposed on WWE’s big stage, then drags some new fans back with her to UFC. Working WWE certainly didn’t devalue Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
The idea of Stephanie legit competing with Rousey for longer than, say, 14 or 16 seconds is absolutely laughable. But Hulk Hogan sold for Jay Leno. Ronda Rousey can sell for Stephanie. It’s not like everybody doesn’t know it’s a work.
The idea of Rousey going to WWE full-time is laughable, also. After one match, she’d be just another Diva.
Well, perhaps not. Because Lesnar is anything but just another wrestler. His heat is amazing, and born of legitimacy. Lesnar beating up everyone in sight Monday reeked of reality. BTW, if the announcers are hurt bad, I’m available. $3K per show, just like always.
But HHH/Stephanie vs. Rock/Rousey is HUGE MONEY. It’s mainstream exposure. It gives the legit sports media jock-sniffers and wrestling marks a chance to shoehorn in more coverage and get to, y’know, HANG OUT WITH PAUL HEYMAN!
Big payday for Ronda Rousey. She’d have fun. Then, back to MMA. Everybody wins.
Ronda Rousey is amazing. Forget her fighting skills, which are obviously considerable. She’s got IT. Ronda Rousey drips charisma. Money in MMA, money in the movies, money in WWE. If you’re not a big fan of Ronda Rousey, you’re wrong.
