USA vs. Russia
John Cena and Rusev battle for the United States Championship. Rusev gets the early advantage, but it does not take long for Cena to hit some shoulder blocks and then a flying leg drop. Cena also hits a new move, an inverted type stunner off the middle rope. It looked great where I was at and seemed to stun Rusev for the time being. With a nice distraction from Lana, Rusev hits a flying headbutt for 2. John Cena battles back and Rusev tries to lock in the Accolade. Cena is able to apply the STF. Rusev is able to get to the ropes and Lana stands on the apron. Rusev runs into her, gets hit with an AA and John Cena is the new United States Champion.
The entrances, once again, were spectacular. Rusev seemed to be a HUGE deal on top of a tank and has really been a guy that has elevated his game to another level. Yes, it would be nice to see Rusev win on a big stage, but there is no way Cena would lose to Russia. John Cena brings a new level of importance to the title.
My only issue is this: with Daniel Bryan as IC Champion, do any of the mid card guys change titles until SummerSlam? If they really want to push these titles, who can be next in line for Cena? Also, what is next for Rusev? How does he bounce back from his first pinfall loss? This was one of John Cena’s better matches at WrestleMania, especially with a young guy who stepped up and delivered. He needs Lana, so let’s hope this does not take her away from him.
