Triple H vs. Sting
First thing is first: Triple H and Sting’s entrances were stellar. It felt like a big deal because it WAS a big deal. Terminator entrance with The Game was so perfect. I loved the effects and loved the gear he was wearing. He is indestructible at times, so this fit. Sting’s gong sounds were eerie, nerve chilling and just great. The match started off slow, but would pick up quickly. Strikes left and right, a few hip tosses and The Game was able to take control. Triple H was the guy who carried a lot of the offense until Sting was able to strike back and hit a splash into the corner. Triple H heads to the outside and Sting misses, crashing himself into the barricade. Triple H sends him back into the ring and tries to hit a move. Sting counters and applies the Scorpion Deathlock. Out comes DX. They try to attack Sting, but he fends them off and sends Triple H over the ropes. He then hits a splash onto all the men on the outside.
When Triple H gets the upper hand and looks to end Sting’s night, NWO’s music hits and out comes Hall, Nash and Hogan. They brawl with DX and all hell breaks loose. Triple H, after all the chaos, gets hit with a baseball bat. Shawn Michaels appears and hits Sting with a Sweet Chin Music.
The Game gets hit with a splash, but a second attempt sees Sting knocked out with a Sledgehammer. The Game picks up the win over Sting.
It got clustered with all of these guys, but who can complain about FINALLY seeing the real DX vs. The Real NOW. It was just a moment for any wrestling fan, seeing both of these historic teams battling with one another for their respected companies. Even though Sting feuded with NWO, it made sense in terms of who was the best stable in history. Sting looked great in the ring, keeping up with the younger and more in-shape Triple H. I really thought this would be shorter, but it ended up being the longest match of the night. Sting losing surprised me, especially since this was his first WWE match. At the end of the night, it will be remembered as historic, win or loss. The story was superb and the interaction with the former guys is something that needed to be done sooner rather than later. The rating is a 9 for everything involved, including the match, the story told, the entrances and the historic moment.
Paige and AJ Lee defeated The Bellas
(Via WZ Live Coverage)
The Bellas attack Paige in the corner and hit a double team suplex for two. Nikki hits Rack Attack for two, then Paige comes back with some offense before AJ gets the tag. AJ connects with a Thesz press and several punches, then she knees Nikki in the head and hits a tornado DDT onto the top rope. Nikki comes back with a fallaway slam attempt, but Paige dropkicks her and AJ calls for a Shining Wizard.
Nikki ducks and puts her in an electric chair drop setup, but AJ counters with a DDT for two. She applies the Black Widow but Brie runs back in to break it up, and Paige kicks her into the corner. Nikki slams AJ down and gets a near fall, broken up by Paige before she sends Brie outside. Paige slams Brie into the steps, then AJ counters a whip by Nikki and makes her tap to the Black Widow.
This was a very good match, but I agree with Bill Pritchard who said there was nothing “great” about it. They did get some time to work, unlike previous events in the past. I really felt like they stepped up their speed and adrenaline for tonight, which should be expected on this large stage. I feel that a title on the line would have been more important and would have meant so much more, especially if all four of these women were still in the match for it. Either way, it was a really good match and kudos to WWE for letting the women work.
