Why this match could be good:
11 years ago, John Cena was in the same boat, facing a bigger opponent for the United States Championship. John Cena has faced them all. Guys like The Rock, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and Bray Wyatt. There have been so many different styles and different types of athletes that he has been able to work with.
Albeit, John Cena is not the best wrestler, but the man shows up when he needs to. Rusev is different. He is a “super athlete.” When thinking of comparisons, it really is difficult. For some reason, I think of Rusev being a man who the heavy version of Daniel Bryan. He focuses on his kicking, submission and technical game more than his strength.
There is no doubt Rusev uses power moves, but when you watch him it is more than that. He will throw in a spinning heel kick. He strikes more with his feet and legs over his hands and arms. The guys has a sense of speed for someone who weighs in at 300 pounds. If John Cena was a technically sound guy, he would be Rusev.
John Cena vs. Rusev is going to show you if Rusev belongs as a main eventer. He is strong and quick, with a sense of urgency in his match. He has gotten considerably better on the mic and can do more than just yell in Russian. He knows how to act. With him and John Cena taking this feud to a new level over the past few weeks, there is no doubt that they can really put on a great match at WrestleMania. Expect this to be surprisingly good.
