The Beginning and Ending of Two Tag Teams
I really liked the pairing of Dolph Ziggler and Ryback tonight. Do they longevity? Possibly. It is too soon to tell, but it helps when Ryback can work with a guy that does everything that he can’t. As for the brothers, Cody and Goldust will ultimately split up and this could be the best time. They need something badly heading into March and I do think they could be a really good undercard match at WrestleMania 31.
Cody could really use the next few weeks as a heel and get himself over even more. I want to see him, Dusty, and Goldust start something that culminates at WrestleMania. It just makes sense and would not need a ton of time to develop on Raw and Smackdown. One segment a night, but even more of some family packages and highlights of their career. Maybe Cody Rhodes is sick of Goldust and wants his brother out of WWE. Goldust does not need a huge send-off, but something like this would feel important and give him his due diligence.
Either way you look at it, This tag team match did two things right. They spotlighted Dolph and Ryback, who are closer to the main event and they also continued the separation of the Rhodes Brothers. I can see where WWE is going with one, but will they go “all in” on a tag team of Ryback and Ziggler? Isn’t it similar to Big E and Dolph?
Dean Ambrose defeated Curtis Axel
Remember the one time where Axel was a “Paul Heyman Guy?” Wow, that did NOTHING for him, as Axel and Ambrose square off in a basic squash match. Axel came out firing first and took control of Ambrose with some punches. He hit Ambrose in the stomach and throws him to the outside. Both men get back into the ring, which allows Dean to hit a clothesline off the ropes and then a bulldog. He blocks a Perfect Plex attempt and is able to hit Dirty Deeds for the win.
BNZ debuts, as Bad News Barrett acts like TMZ reporters and tells us the bad news. He states that Ambrose is not a worthy competitor. This ends with Barrett saying stay tuned.
I thought this was pretty intelligent. I like Barrett’s gimmick, even though he is more suited for a face right now. This storyline could be good. It could be great. I worry about the title getting the prestige back. There has not been a guy for almost a decade to bring prestige back to this title. Now is the best time, but I will not believe it until I see it. This story can have depth. It can have comedy.
I do not want them to rush things, though. Let it brew for a few weeks and potentially add it to WrestleMania 31 with some sort of stipulation. Not every match can be one-on-one contests with no stipulation. Would a ladder work here?
