STEP UP: Alberto El Patron

If you haven’t already heard the incredible interview between Alberto El Patron and Pro Wrestling Illustrated, you need to check it out. The former WWE Champion talks about signing with Lucha Underground, the offer TNA made him, mistreatment of WWE talents and a lot more.

alberto del rioOne line that stood out to me was Alberto describing his time in WWE as being “a robot”, as the company would fine him for changing a single line in his promos, and people praising him for the passion in his Ring of Honor and House of Hardcore promos. It’s worth noting, he claims the fines are not applicable to “some people” at the top of the roster. Next time you want to criticize a guy like him, or a Roman Reigns for sticking to the awful scripts they’re given, remember that.

AEP gets a huge step up this week for finding success in his life after WWE. He’s an incredible in-ring talent, and when he talks about Rey Mysterio being “God in Mexico” and him being “the devil”, it occurred to me that match in the main event of TripleMania could be all-time status, even in the shape Rey is likely in these days. There’s so much money to be made all around the world if you 1) have the talent, and 2) know how to market yourself.
