Stars in Progress: Seth Rollins Stomps His Way Up, New Day Shines on Main Event; An Unnecessarily Long Rant About Total Divas

THE TOTAL DIVAS SECTION!!!

STEP DOWN: Eva Marie

STEP UP: Rosa Mendes

So…I watched Total Divas this week. I’ll admit, I’ve seen exactly two episodes of the show. The first was the series premiere, the second was this week’s show. I don’t know why – it just sort of happened (I actually do know why, and it involves downloading obscure wrestling shows and my seed/leach ratio on potentially illegal torrenting websites).

eva marieI realize that giving people a STEP DOWN in a column that doesn’t matter, because of a reality show that doesn’t matter, based off a fake-wrestling company’s women’s division that doesn’t matter… is sort of ridiculous. The absurdity of it all is not lost on me.

We’ve all given Eva Marie a tough time since she debuted on Total Divas. The word “awful” gets thrown around a lot. I remember hearing about a dark match she had at an NXT taping, and how poorly the crowd treated her. I felt terrible.

Look – Eva isn’t great. She can’t really wrestle, and she’s not confident talking in front of people, and she hasn’t shown a lot of reading qualities outside of a smoking hot body and some really fun hair choices. But take a second to consider who is actually to blame. Eva decided she wanted to try wrestling – GOOD FOR HER. More people should chase their dreams. WWE is 100% at fault for putting a complete green talent with zero wrestling experience on television in front of millions of people. That’s essential the same as putting a freshman in high school in the NFL playoffs.

So that’s my mini-rant on why people are kind of being dicks to Eva Marie.

Kelly Kelly was the same way. WWE saw a gorgeous young girl who wanted to be a star, and they shoved her into a role she wasn’t ready for. You know…after they made her a stripper. Kelly Kelly got better. She was actually pretty decent by the time she left.

Maybe the moral of the story is that Eva Marie should be a stripper. Scientifically speaking, I think that may just be the solution we’re all looking for.

THAT BEING SAID, I think she may have some legitimate mental blocks that require professional help. If you hide the fact that you don’t want to have children from your family-OBSESSED boyfriend and then MARRY HIM, you’ve just walked into a potential cluster**** that can’t be undone.

Normal people understand that sort of thing. What I can’t figure out – and this is why she gets a step down – is how Eva lacks even the basic human emotions necessary to empathize with her husband’s frustration. “I think you’re overreacting”, was the response she gave, after telling the moron who committed his life to her, that his new wife never wants to have children.

rosa mendezRosa Mendes is another girl that gets a lot of crap from WWE fans.

After watching one episode of Total Divas, I have a lot more respect for her. She had her personal demons, she took time off to deal with them, and she’s trying to get her life back on track. It’s hard to fault anyone for that.

Yes… it’s idiotic to plan an intentional wardrobe malfunction. To me, that speaks volumes for the state of women’s wrestling in WWE. How desperate for screen time must these people be, if they’re trying to plan a nip-slip to get more Twitter followers? Add to that, how paranoid is Rosa about everyone in the locker room? She’s got one friend in Alicia Fox, and even that friendship got thrown out the window when she thought “Foxy” leaked their plan to management.

EARTH TO ROSA: YOU’RE BEING FILMED AT ALL TIMES!!

Rosa seems like a genuinely nice person. That’s probably not a good thing. Genuinely nice people tend not to last long in the poisonous environment that WWE creates. The paranoia that every Diva is out to get her fired more or less proves that.

I wish her the best. Personally I think she’s closer to the top half of female talents, rather than the bottom. She’s come a long way, and unlike most of the women on Total Divas, her personality doesn’t make me want to kill myself.
