The Undertaker vs. Mankind
King of the Ring ’98

The UndertakerThis will forever be the most talked about Hell in a Cell match, ever. Nothing can, and will top Mick Foley crashing off the top of the cage, through an announce table. Anybody that saw it will forever have the image of his tooth, through his nose, burned into the brain. I still cringe thinking about Mick being slammed through the Cell, crashing 16-feet to the canvas below. The thumbtacks, the blood, the stretchers; I can recite that “match” from beginning to end with perfect clarity.

But I use the quoted “match” intentionally. While the story they told was exceptional, this wasn’t a wrestling match. This wasn’t even a brawl. I’d like to count up the amount of time Mankind was ever in control of this contest of pure will and determination. This was more a complete destruction of Mick Foley as a human being; almost literally, when you consider how much it probably took off his career, and possibly his life in the long run.

Undertaker beat him down, he got back up. Beat him down, get back up. That was the story, and while it was incredible, this was NOT a wrestling match. Of course, this is Hell in a Cell we’re talking about, and it’s not required that you go out and perform at a technical level. This still goes down as one of the best three Cells in history. But there are two more that require superiority…
