STEP DOWN: RAW Ratings
I heard Triple H on Talk is Jericho a week or so ago, and one of the more interesting segments was a story about a closed-door talent meeting where the top guys basically changed the business by realizing the mid-90’s wrestling product was insulting the fan’s intelligence. The Attitude Era was born out of that meeting. So it’s really ironic to me that while Vince McMahon is still the end-all, be-all of WWE creative, there’s a grown man dressed in a rabbit costume competing in wrestling matches on Monday Night RAW. I don’t mean to rain on your parade if you like The Bunny segments. I understand that wrestling is supposed to be fun. But if you look at the RAW ratings, which were the lowest in 2014 this week, it’s blatantly obvious that this brand of “fun” isn’t working.
I’ve said this in other columns in the past, which were well-received by most of our readers. WWE has no idea who it’s target demographic is, and therefor they have no game plan, and therefor they have no “soul” to the product. Why would you show a guy getting his head slammed into concrete blocks, and then feature The Bunny wrestling on live television an hour later? It just doesn’t make any sense. Kids’ programming at 10PM doesn’t make any sense. They’re not just insulting my intelligence, they’re making a mockery out of their own.
