Wrestlezone Top 10: Undertaker “Streak” Matches That DIDN’T Happen

#8-7  The Rock / Steve Austin

college gamedayI’m listing these two together because The Rock and Steve Austin are the undisputed kings of the Attitude Era, and because they’re two people that Undertaker – as the leader of the Ministry of Darkness – had matches with on several occasions during that period of time. But for all the matches between three of the biggest stars ever, neither the Great One or the Texas Rattlesnake took a shot at the Deadman’s WrestleMania streak.

I have a suspicion that a match between a combination of them was discussed at one point or another, but there’s probably a good reason they never took place. During the late ’90s and the turn of the century, Rock and Austin were the biggest stars in wrestling. While Undertaker was adding names to his list – names like Big Show, Big Bossman and Kane – the two were winning world titles, and carrying the product during the most successful period in wrestling history. Neither lost on the big stage, unless it was against the other. Feeding the Undertaker’s much shorter, but still present, undefeated streak to either wouldn’t have boosted their careers, and it would have severely stunted his career to end the streak over a decade ago.

Still…we can dream.
