#4 – Eight Man Tag Match
AAA TripleMania III-B
June 19, 1995
The earliest match on this list by far, and some would say the greatest from Mysterio’s young career in Mexico. This crazy match was a 2-out-of-3 falls 8-man tag team match featuring a collection of huge names; when Rey Mysterio is the youngest, most inexperienced member of a match, you know you’re probably looking at some history. It included the iconic El Hijo del Santo, one of the original AAA wrestlers in Juan “Octagon” Escalera, La Parka, Blue Panther, Psychosis, the original Pentagon character Espanto, Jr., and Fuerza Guerrera, the father of Juventud Guerrera.
The match ended up coming down to Rey Mysterio and El Hijo del Santo – son of the biggest star in Mexican history, and a Hall of Famer in his own right – pinning Pentagon and Fuerza Guerrera to win. It was probably the most important, and certainly the best win of Rey’s young career, and one that set a precedent for underdog victories for the next two decades of his life.
