Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz
The WWE has a new Intercontinental Champion. There is no doubt that Ziggler is more over than The Miz. I was shocked to see Ziggler pick up the victory here because this newly branded Miz has been pretty solid since his return. They have done more for him than they have for Ziggler over the past 2 years. The Miz and Ziggler fought a fast-paced and entertaining match that lasted under 10 minutes. The crowd was hot and really helped the “friends” work great with one another. The Fameasser reversed into a Skull Crushing Finale seemed to be the end of Ziggler, but many of the “experts” were wrong. Ziggler ends up getting the win and great moment to hopefully resurrect his career in WWE.
What is next? Miz and Ziggler should continue their feud and Night of Champions should be a ladder match for the IC title. Both have ladder match wins in their history and this is the perfect title that could be defended in this stipulation.
Paige defeated AJ Lee
Two matches and two new champions kick off WWE SummerSlam Reaction. AJ Lee and Paige were two Divas in different parts of their careers. AJ Lee is the “John Cena” of the division. I mean, she can lose the title and still be who she is without getting buried down the roster. Paige lost the title and needed a heel turn badly. WWE did the right thing tonight, giving Paige the championship. This was by far their best match in the feud and lasted under 6 minutes. We saw a much more aggressive and angry side of Lee, something not seen since she was “crazy” in the past. Paige hit her hanging DDT finisher for the win, which looked great. This was one of the better Divas matches I have seen in some time.
I wish the match was a little longer and a little more smoother. If that was the case, this would be a higher rating. Either way, this was a good match with importance on WWE NOT burying another Diva for the sake of AJ Lee.
