Rusev defeated Jack Swagger
The Flag Match really did not mean they have to grab the flag to win. In fact, we rarely saw the flags being used in any sort. I thought the match was physical from the very beginning. It was very smart to have Swagger attack the ankle of Rusev early, giving him an advantage and not making Rusev look weak.
I would have much rather seen this match as a submission match because it would make sense. Who will quit? USA or Russia? That would have been more of a dominant win, but I do think Jack Swagger could have saved his career in WWE. I just wonder what else he can do to back the USA without looking weak. Rusev winning was the right call, one that needed to happen.
WWE knows what they have with Swagger. The potential of Rusev is the reason he picks up the win tonight, on a grand stage in front of millions of fans worldwide.
Seth Rollins defeated Dean Ambrose
What an excellent match. The crowd made this seem SO real, so intense and they fed off of the energy. Some of the great parts of the match included when Ambrose took out the Lumberjacks with a suicide dive, then he runs across the barricade and tackles Rollins.
Ambrose attacks Kofi Kingston and chases Rollins into the crowd. Out comes Kane, who tells the Lumberjacks to chase the men back into the ring. Dean takes the entire group out with a diving cross body before attempting Dirty Deeds. Rollins drops down and kicks him to counter, but Ambrose rebounds off the ropes and clotheslines him for a close call. Dean Ambrose knocks Rollins down and catches him with a Curb Stomp, then he makes the cover but Kane breaks the count. Goldust gets in Kane’s face and it ends up in a huge brawl. The match ends with Rollins knocking out Ambrose with the suitcase.
Even though I am over Kane in any authority role right now, it made complete sense and was a great way to get even more heat on Dean Ambrose. I can see Ambrose vs. Kane and him having to beat him to get his hands onto Seth Rollins once again. This feud is money and the realistic pieces involved tonight made the match a show-stealer. Well done.
