Stars in Progress: Stephanie McMahon & Brie Bella Are Great, TNA Management Has Lost My Respect, NXT Gets Some International Flair

Step Up – Blackapella

big e interviewThe Xavier Woods, Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston group doesn’t really have a name yet (at least not to my understanding) so I’m suggesting one of my favorite Psych references. And if Zack Ryder joins the group, they can be Quarter-Black.

These guys are so good together. Xavier Woods has been on the main roster for months, and it’s frustrating to see a guy with a doctorate and that much talent going to such extreme waste. If WWE isn’t going to push him as a wrestler – which they really should have, because he’s quite good – giving him a microphone is the next best thing. Woods can be a physical manager, in the prime of his career, able to talk and put his guys over, but still willing to take a bump from the babyface. Kofi has been the most underutilized talent in WWE of the past decade. Big E is a phenomenal athlete with the body of a mythological legend, who is hilarious outside of the ring. The only reason this group could  fail, is if the creative team drops the ball.

Step Up – WWE’s International Flair

In the past few weeks WWE has announced the signings of both Japanese star Kenta (formerly KENTA), and Irish-born sensation Fergal Devitt. The later is a multi-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, and a two-time winner of the New Japan Super Juniors tournament – the same tournament won by former WWE champs Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero. Former ROH World Champion Kevin Steen is expected to arrive in developmental this August; Steen is also Canadian.

Currently in NXT is Mexican high flyer Kalisto (Samuray del Sol), Canadian Sami Zayn (El Generico), English champion Adrian Neville (PAC), and Ric Flair’s daughter Charlotte. Charlotte is American, but…she’s Ric Flair’s daughter, so I’m still excited. If half those talents debut in the next year, added to Reigns, Rollins, Ambrose, Harper, Rowan, Wyatt, Paige, Barrett, Dallas, Cesaro – the roster is going to be stacked.
