Step Down: Jim Cornette

Jim CornetteAs an on-screen character and a wrestling manager, I’ve always been a Jim Cornette fan. He’s a natural on the microphone, and has helped dozens of guys get over in their time. I even enjoy the modern on-screen Cornette, and have purchased a few of his recent UK Tour live shows; all have been incredibly entertaining. I know nothing in the way of first-hand information about his backstage politics or skill at booking a show, so I won’t comment on that. Unfortunately, I cannot stand Cornette as a person on the internet.

Lots of big-time wrestlers extend their fake character to Twitter, and while I don’t follow those accounts, I understand. But Jim isn’t playing a character when he constantly – and I mean Every. Single. Day. – spews his venom on social media. He’s just a hateful person, and regardless of his contributions to the wrestling world, every time he opens his mouth I feel sorry for the guy. How can you live a happy life with such obvious hate and disdain in your heart?

WE GET IT, YOU HATE VINCE RUSSO, but come on man – name calling all these years later, in Twitter messages to random fans you don’t care about? Can it get any lower than that? To his credit, Russo extended an olive branch last week, and asked him to go on Jim Ross’ podcast, man-to-man and sort out their issues in front of the world. Unfortunately, it appears Cornette would rather continue to gossip to strangers on social media.
