#9 – Affordable PPV Options
One of the questions on the survey was "how much are you willing to pay for PPV or iPPV if the match card is good?" Over 1,500 people answered and the overwhelming favorite was $20, followed by $30, then $10, $25 and $15 in that order.
I love interpreting data and playing with numbers. When I asked the question I expected a huge number of people to weigh in at $10 because of the price of the WWE Network. If GFW comes across as a major promotion, then why are we paying more for their PPV when WWE has this giant network for only $9.99 per month? And that's what is so interesting to me – people are still willing to pay good money for good wrestling.
The #1 answer by a huge margin was twice as expensive as the WWE Network. The #2 answer was three times as expensive! The response here, and what you guys are really saying – and this is important – is that you are willing and eager to pay a premium for a solid wrestling PPV, but gone are the days that a $50 price tag is acceptable. With the amount of over-saturation in the business today, and the Network making decades of content so easily accessible, the cost must come down to match the current market average.
I think $30 is a great price tag to put on a fully produced GFW PPV event. Now if we're talking iPPV that's a completely different conversation, and one that I would heavily recommend staying away from. But at $30 you're going to rope in a huge percentage of the people who took our survey, plus entice a large portion of the people who said they would only pay $20. You're going to have a harder time convincing the $10 crowd to triple their investment, but it's not out of the question.
