Stars in Progress: John Cena, Jack Swagger vs. Cesaro, Kane Returns to Form, Good News for Bad News Barrett

Jack Swagger Up, Cesaro Down

Jack swaggerWWE has done a great job with Jack Swagger since the Real Americans split. He’s been in solid matches, has a legitimate beef with his former partner, and his manager has done nothing but draw heat with every promo. This is the best Jack Swagger we’ve seen in years.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but Cesaro is still interesting to me because he’s now forcibly associated with Swagger and Zeb Colter. Paul Heyman is drawing heat, but that’s completely counter-productive given that the Universe wants to cheer his client. This is precisely why I thought putting Heyman with Cesaro would be a bad idea. Heyman is still promoting Brock. Nobody is talking about Cesaro.

Bad News Barrett – Step Up…for Now

With Cesaro, Swagger and Sheamus now out of the running for the Intercontinental Championship, you have to think Bad News Barrett is the most obvious choice to move into the title match at Extreme Rules. Big E won’t be able to maintain babyface status against Rob Van Dam. Not that he’s doing a great job of that presently anyways.

It’s unfortunately, but this is what WWE does with midcard stars they don’t have plans for. Put the title around their waist, and let them sit until the next person deserves the “push”. Langston, Curtis Axel, Barrett twice before, The Miz, etc. Each of them enjoyed a brief stint in the spotlight before getting the title and switching to cruise control. Will that happen to Barrett? Again? Probably. But for now he gets a step up because a win is a win is a win, and you’re likely looking at the next Intercontinental Champion.
