The Month of May: Step Up

ring of honor tv tapingI’ve given the entire month of May a giant step up, entirely because of two events most of you won’t watch. Ring of Honor comes to Toronto, and then to New York City producing two iPPV events alongside New Japan Pro Wrestling. ROH announced Tuesday that The Bullet Club – AJ Styles, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson and the Young Bucks – will accompany the New Japan crew. They join the likes of Okada, Tanahashi, Jushin Liger, Nakamura, KUSHIDA, and several others.

If you’ve never paid attention to ROH, now is the time. NJPW is the best wrestling company on the planet right now. That’s not hyperbole. If they provided English commentary, I’d likely stop watching WWE altogether. Their product is that darn good. Ring of Honor is the best they’ve been in years – maybe ever. At least one, if not both of the joint shows next month have a shot at being the best event of 2014. Watch them. You’re welcome.

Extreme Rising: Six Steps Under

The Extreme Rising promotion closed down its Facebook and Twitter pages this week, after cancelling all their up-and-coming shows and informing the booked talent via text message. Every wrestler I’ve talked to says the promoter has no idea what he’s doing. I obviously can’t speak from experience, but I trust most of those I’ve chatted with. I emphasize most because hey…it’s wrestling.
