30 Years of WrestleMania: Wrestlezone’s Top 10 Superstars to Headline the Showcase of the Immortals

#7 – Bret "The Hitman" Hart

file_188899_0_BretHartBret Hart is one of the best technical wrestlers to have ever lived, but his track record in WrestleMania main events isn't actually that impressive. His first headliner act was a loss to Yokozuna that did nothing but shotgun the WWE Championship back to Hulk Hogan. The following year he got his "win back" against Yoko, beating him with a little help from gravity. Honestly, if those two matches never happened, very few people would lose sleep over it.

So why is Bret on this list? It's simple. At WrestleMania XII, Bret Hart wrestled one of my personal favorite matches: a 60-minute Ironman match against Shawn Michaels that launched one of the greatest careers ever into the spotlight.

There's also a matter of a slightly better match the next year. One that produced the iconic image of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin passed out in a pool of his own blood. While technically not a "headline" match, it was one of two main events, and one that we absolutely cannot leave out when talking about the WrestleMania career of Bret Hart. There's also a collection of great tag team matches from his days before being an international superstar.

The best there is, the best there was, and one of the best damn wrestlers WrestleMania will ever see.
