#4 – The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns
Throw away the babyface turn for a second. All I hear regarding The Undertaker's streak is that Brock Lesnar doesn't deserve the match, he doesn't "need" the win, and that an up-and-coming star should be in his place instead. I'm not going to bother debating how buyrates work, and spouting off Lesnar's PPV drawing power, so I guess I'll just right to the point.
If anybody on the current roster could benefit from ending The Undertaker's streak, it's either a heel John Cena, or Roman Reigns. But that presents a few different storyline issues – the main issue being that fans want to cheer Roman. He could be a HUGE babyface, and ending the streak may set him up to fail ultimately. Sure it's a big accomplishment, but what do they do after that? They can't turn around and present him as the babyface who killed the legacy of the Deadman. The only thing they could do is turn him into the bitchy heel who does nothing but talk about beating the Undertaker at WrestleMania. He'd be Chris Jericho, who beat The Rock and Steve Austin in the same night – in case you've never heard that story 1,000 times.
#3 – Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar
And that's why ultimately I think this match is a much better idea. Think back to January when Brock Lesnar returned and beat the hell out of Mark Henry. Then he went to the Royal Rumble and did the same thing to Big Show. That was all to build him up as a threat to The Undertaker, but what if they had gone a different direction? What if instead of The Deadman, they played the "nobody can stop me" card, and Roman Reigns answered the call?
Remember the reaction Roman got in the final seconds of the Royal Rumble match? Most of that was just misplaced aggression at Batista and WWE's decision-making regarding Daniel Bryan, but some of it was legitimate desire to see The Shield's big man break free and become a giant star in the business. We all know he's got the looks. He's improved more than anybody I've seen in the ring, after only a little over a year on the main roster. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are incredible, but we all know what Vince McMahon looks for, and we all know Roman has "it".
Brock Lesnar could have been the stepping stone to making Reigns into the next big thing. He still could. SummerSlam would be the next logical place to hold that match. But we obviously will not be seeing it at WrestleMania this year.
