Cost
Why is indie wrestling so expensive?
A lot of people don't follow indie wrestling because it's expensive. Or at least, they think it is. And yes, if you try to follow 10 different companies and buy all thier DVDs, you're gonna have a bad time. But if you put things in perspective, it's really not that bad.
On the PWG Matt Rushmore DVD I put over earlier, there are 7 matches. 22 people take part in those 7 matches. Basically, for $15 you are paying each of those wrestlers less than $0.70 to put their physical well-being on the line for your entertainment. Doesn't sound so crazy anymore, does it? We haven't even factored in the people that do commentary, the people who set up the ring, the people running production, anybody who happens to be on the creative end of business, the people holding the cameras, etc etc. When it's all said and done, you're probably paying less than a quarter per head for everyone who helped put the project together.
Wrestlers are people, and they need to make a living. They aren't big Hollywood actors that get paid millions of dollars for making a movie, whether it sucks or not. And yet, we will pay upwards of $25 for a brand new Blu-ray when it comes out. We will spend $30 on a movie ticket, a large soda and a tub of popcorn.
I'm not asking you to watching wrestling out of guilt. I'm just making a case for why paying $15 for a really good show isn't actually that ridiculous. If you can't afford it, don't watch every indie show there is every month. Just pleae don't torrent and/or illegally stream indie wrestling. I honestly don't care what you do with the WWE product – they are a billion dollar company. But I know a lot of the guys and gals that travel all over the country to entertain fans and try to make a modest living off their passions. There's nothing noble or Robin Hood-esque about torrenting an indie show. It's selfish, and quite frankly, it makes you a bad person.
