Here Comes the Money…
There was talk early last week about who would replace Vince McMahon as CEO of the WWE, should anything happen to him. The man is healthier than most of us, but at 68-years-old that conversation has to be had internally – what's the plan if the unthinkable happens?
People immediately looked towards Stephanie McMahon and Triple H as potential residents on the throne. But that's apparently not as obvious of a decision as you would think. As a full-time mom with kids still young enough to need attention, could Stephanie afford the time to be CEO of a publicly traded company? And while he's had great experience in recent years, Triple H is likely far from a smart business choice. It's not that he couldn't do the job, eventually, but if you're a shareholder, you have to question the stability of a billion dollar company with a former-wrestler-turned-management at the helm, especially with only a few years of real business experience under his belt.
WWE's CFO George Barrios and executive Michelle Wilson are top choices, according to our report (link above). The apparent issue with them is that neither really has the wrestling experience to bridge that gap. That had me thinking, what about Shane McMahon? Shane is 44-years-old and well out of the professional wrestling world. He's not getting back in the ring every year for WrestleMania. Plus, he has the business experience. He was the EVP of Global Media for WWE before he left the company, before helping to create one of the leading broadband services in the country of China, where he was the CEO for several years. So he has the business sense, and he clearly knows the wrestling industry better than most. I think Shane O'Mac would make a pretty decent CEO.
