'Attitude' Enthusiasts – One Step Down
OK, so there's really just "one" enthusiast that rubbed me the wrong way this week, and he wrote this garbage the other day, but I've also noticed that RAW's vicious ending prompted several others to vent their frustrations toward WWE in comparison.
"That's how wrestling is SUPPOSED to be!"
"Remember when RAW closed like that every single week? PG doesn't allow for that to happen enough anymore."
Those were just a couple of comments I noticed popping up in the aftermath Monday night. Being a guy who 100% feels pro wrestling has lost its "edge" over the past decade or so, I don't cling to the past or long for tables, ladders and chairs in every match and segment.
PG is not where I place the blame…ever. It's an easy scapegoat, sure, and I do question whether going that route was truly "best for business" long-term, but what's done is done. Good storytelling trumps anything and everything, and THAT is where Vince and Co. have failed more times than not in recent memory.
As a buddy of mine posted Tuesday in direct response to this same topic, RAW's final minutes felt special. Why? Because we are NOT spoiled and oversaturated with that type of violence anymore. There's still plenty of that to go around though, if it's really what you're after as a wrestling fan, and it's right where it should be: on pay-per-views.
HIAC, TLC, MITB, Extreme Rules — pick your poison, but spend your $9.99 a month first. RAW doesn't need that every week to hold "my" attention. If it does for you, it's unfortunate. I'd suggest you not get your hopes up though about what it means for the future.
