Bobby Lashley – One Step Up
I have had the pleasure of speaking and working with Bobby Lashley on several occasions. Making that point isn't for the sole purpose of name-dropping either, but rather to say there are very few nicer guys in the business than him. He is genuine and kind — rare qualities for people with money and notoriety, much less to the extent I feel Lashley possesses.
Of course, being a nice guy doesn't always lend itself to success in the pro wrestling business. In fact, I'd be more apt to say it does exactly the opposite.
Lashley returning to TNA, on the surface, means very little. He's certainly not going to be the guy to move the needle an inch when much bigger "names" have tried and failed in the past. That's not on him though — Dixie and Co. simply can't seem to find a way to create stars or even a modicum of company interest beyond what they've had for many years now.
Do I feel Lashley is a good choice for them? Absolutely. He's a moderate name in the business and he comes with much more reasonable price tag than others on the market. Plus, he's not going whine, screw you over, or bury you in the media when things don't go his way.
For many fans reading this column, Bobby Lashley going back to TNA is hardly news. And I'm certainly not jumping up and down waiting to watch Impact tomorrow, but I do find it to be a SOUND business decision for both parties.
And trust me, if WWE was interested in Lashley at this time, he would be interested in them. There most likely wasn't a choice to be made for the former ECW Heavyweight Champion. Otherwise, I'm confident Sunday's events would have never transpired.
It's good to see Bobby back in a televised wrestling ring though. Was always a fan before I ever met the guy.
