Cesaro – One Step Down
Dropping Antonio from his name is fine. I can get behind the "name" Cesaro. I doubt I can get behind "the man" Cesaro anytime soon though. Is he going to drop the accent too? Then, maybe I could get excited about it.
Why break up a perfectly-suited tag team before they have a chance at a decent run anyway? Of course, the split is only rumor and conjecture at this point, but it seems to be the way they're headed. What do you do with Colter after that? They already tried him with Swagger alone, so that can't work for long. Colter's too talented to lose completely, but his whole shtick really only works how it is now.
Swagger and Colter would be easy sacrifices to justify if Cesaro was proven. But he's not even close. WWE did everything they could do to get the guy over as U.S. Champion, and you could hear crickets during his segments. Actually, I think the crickets were more over than he was.
I'm not trying to "hate" on Cesaro. He's a fine talent, but I don't see the point in risking it. The Real Americans are just starting to peak too, so why not ride that for a while? God forbid you have more than a couple of viable tag teams, I guess.
