Wrestlezone Recap: Daniel Bryan to Miss the WWE Royal Rumble? American Wolves in TNA, Why Pro Wrestling is a Sexist Industry & More

Daniel Bryan Suffers a Concussion

What perfect timing!

I believe if WWE is finally taking Bryan seriously, as they should after that incredible moment at the end of last week's Raw, it could completely change the outcome of WrestleMania this year. Of course, that will completely depend upon how serious his concussion is. Serious enough to take him off the obligatory week of live events, sure, but what if they now want him to win the Royal Rumble match? Are they going to let a short-term injury keep them from setting up the biggest main event of the biggest PPV of the year?

I'm not saying Bryan SHOULD wrestle with a concussion, and there's probably rules in place that say he can't. But if there was ever a match where he'd be safe, it would be the Royal Rumble. Hell, he could come out at #30, toss one guy over the top rope, and win the whole damn thing. Obviously it would be a better story to see him come in early, out-last the Wyatt Family, the Shield, all the people that want him put down; that's a lot of stress to put on an injured brain. This is all speculative, of course.

Here's a question: can they keep Daniel Bryan hot from the Rumble to Mania, as a viable contender to Randy Orton's world title? They'd have to actually put heat on Orton and The Authority, which is something they've flat out refused to do in recent months. It's not a matter of keeping Bryan relevant, as the fans will do that on their own. It's a matter of booking that match so people will want to order it for a 3rd, 4th or 5th time.

If Bryan can't win the Royal Rumble, he can still win the title inside the Elimination Chamber. Setting up a triple threat match between Orton, Bryan and the Rumble winner would be easy, but maybe not the best choice from a storytelling point of view. Unless that man was CM Punk, which is highly unlikely… I could get behind Cena-Punk-Orton-Bryan in a 4-way, with various members of The Authority involved. There's a ton of possibilities, not the least of which is Orton-Batista, which I still believe to be a red herring. The Rumble will be an interesting and must-see PPV next weekend, that's for sure.
