LOS MATADORES vs. THE REAL AMERICANS | **1/2
Results: Los Matadores with a double team facebuster on Jack Swagger for the win. After the match, El Torito takes out everyone.
We're past the half-way point now on this PPV, and I'm definitely feeling the effects of filler on this card. It's good to see Los Matadores get a "real" match that's not against 3MB. I don't really know how much steam these two teams can work up. If they plan on carrying this feud out until Survivor Series, I sincerely doubt the fans will care. The match wasn't bad, it was just a cool down after Hell in a Cell. At the very least you're looking at another performance by WWE's tag team division tonight. That's never really a bad thing. I just hope they can pick things up in the next hour.
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
ALBERTO DEL RIO (c) vs. JOHN CENA | ***
Alberto del Rio tries for the Cross Arm Breaker, John Cena counters into the Attitude Adjustment, and you've got a new World Champion.
Solid, slow-paced match that picked up near the end with a good series of finishers and finisher counters that lead to the final fall. Pretty normal stuff here from Cena and del Rio. They've had much better matches in the past. Cena's return sold the story though. The main event needs to really deliver to make this PPV a success though.
I'm not surprised by John Cena winning the title, but I am mildly shocked there was no post-match attack, and no cash in from Damien Sandow. I would almost guarantee it happens on Raw tomorrow night. I'm not sure I see John Cena returning to a full-time schedule just yet, and I'm even less sure WWE wants to go on the road without a world champion for live events.
WWE DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
AJ LEE (c) vs. BRIE BELLA | **
Brie accidentally kicks Nikki on the apron, AJ locks in the Black Widow, and retains the Divas Championship.
I could have done with more of this match actually. Not that they could have sparred an extra few minutes, with the Hell in a Cell match coming up immediately afterwards, but Brie and AJ make a decent pairing. And speaking of, AJ retains because the real story here is planting the seeds between the Bella Twins. They've been teasing it at live events for a few weeks, and it's been talked about for awhile. The trouble with this idea continues to be Nikki's relationship with John Cena, and continuity with the second part of Total Divas. Also, the twin thing is kind of their gimmick (you know, outside of the fact that they're dating WWE's two top babyfaces). Can they be successful on their own?
