WWE debuted a new pay-per-view called Battleground. WZ has full recap of the entire event.
My Monday column for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review features my reaction to the event. The following is an excerpt:
Just to clarify: No winner, and no reveal of what side Big Show was on. He apparently was influenced at first by the evil authority but then had a change of conscience.
When the power went out, perhaps WWE should have packed it up.
I'm all for storytelling, and I love proper build. But this wasn't proper build, and nothing new was told in the story that I didn't already know prior to purchasing the event.
Once again, outside factors prevent a clean win for the WWE title between Orton and Bryan. This will put emphasis on the need for the next pay-per-view at the end of the month: Hell in a Cell. That will be the type of match for the title and to get a winner.
It's a poor excuse to have three pay-per-views in an eight-week span. It's a tough sell to ask people to order a third pay-per-view in that short of time span especially after nothing was must-see in the first two.
I give my four highlights of the event, yes I found four, plus my reaction to Antonio Cesaro and more. Read it here in the full column.
