WWE Night of Champions

The Reality Of Night Of Champions & The Main Event Finish

WWE’s Night of Champions was headlined by Randy Orton defending the WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan. The rest of the card featured every other title being defended and a grudge match between Curtis Axel and CM Punk. As always, WZ has full play-by-play recap.

Today’s column for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, I give full reaction and reality to the show. The following is an excerpt:

The commentators spent a minute critiquing the referee in the divas match for not counting a pin fall when their technically should have been … but they didn’t notice or acknowledge the quick count.

They didn’t say anything because RAW is going to take notice. It has to. Why else would you have two referee’s involved?

This is a good thing. It’s too early for Bryan to win the title properly. The chase is where the money is. It makes sense for him to once again be screwed out of success. I wish the the reversal of his title win would have happened on the pay-per-view. This would have made two pay-per-views in a row he wins and gets it taken back from him.

Some other notes:

• Ryback is the new Paul Heyman guy? Well, what better way to solidify him as a heel then to pair him with Heyman. Fans will either respect him as a heel because he’s with Heyman or the same fans who chanted Goldberg are the “smart” fans who respect Heyman. It’s very smart for Ryback. As for Curtis Axel, what a shove to the side this is on him.
