WrestleZone’s Top 10: Night of Champions Matches

Number 7: CM Punk vs. Triple H at Night of Champions 2011

Triple H

In 2011, CM Punk was given the green light to become his own superstar. After a great feud with John Cena, he would turn his attention to WWE COO Triple H at Night of Champions. Originally, it was supposed to be Kevin Nash vs. CM Punk, but Triple H made the wise decision to change that a few weeks before the show. Nash cost Punk the title at SummerSlam by attacking him and having Del Rio cash in his contract. Having a feeling that Nash vs. Punk was not big enough, Triple H placed himself in the match. We fast forward to a month later and Buffalo, New York was the city that would host a personal conflict of a match. Punk wanted to take over WWE, but Triple H did not see big money in him. Triple H put his job in the line. The No Disqualification stipulation made the made a classic brawl at the very beginning. Even though the interferences watered down the ending, Punk was able to give us high drama by kicking out of the Pedigree. Punk and Triple H fought inside and outside of the ring until Punk could no longer battle. Triple H defeated Punk and Punk would soon move onto bigger and better things. This match showed you the real life feelings between a guy who was born and bred into WWE and another who took the hard road to the top.
