Wrestlezone’s Top 10: WWE Summerslam Pay Per Views

Number 3: Summerslam 1992

Bret Hart

It is hard to ignore history. Summerslam 1992 had plenty of it, including the only Summerslam outside of North America, as well as the largest crowd of over 80,000. This kind of crowd was unheard of outside of WrestleMania events, but London brought the heat. With a card stacked with young talent, it was the main event that did all the speaking. Ring warriors Bret “The Hitman” Hart would defend the Intercontinental Championship against the British Bulldog. Yes, this was a time where the IC gold was just as important and used just as frequently as the WWE Championship. The crowd would be electric when Bulldog pinned Bret after a 20 plus minute match to win the championship. A test of sheer intelligence, athleticism, and timing gave the fans all they could ask for. Bret and Davey Boy Smith would leave their lives in the ring here. It was simply amazing to know their personal connection, their history, and their ability to shine without the main championship on the ring. This was not overshadowed, even though Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior had all the build in the world. Savage and Warrior were “the guys” in the company, two studs in different parts of their career. A few forgotten moments were the debut of The Undertaker at Summerslam, as well as Shawn Michaels vs. Rick Martel in a unique and entertaining contest.
