Wrestlezone’s Top 10: WWE Summerslam Pay Per Views

Number 4: Summerslam 2000

Shane McMahon

If you like big spots and gimmick matches, Summerslam 2000 was exactly what you need to watch. We will talk about the main event in just a second, but let’s dive into some of the other big moments. The first ever Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match took place in Raleigh, North Carolina at Summerslam 2000. Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boys, and The Dudley’s battled in a fantastic match with Swanton Bombs, 3D’s through some wood, and a spear off the ladder. This opened up the mind of fans to witness the unexpected. This broke the typical Ladder Match genre, and opened up the idea of innovative ways to implement other pieces in a ladder match besides the steel scaffolding. Other than that, Steve Blackmon took an elbow drop from Shane McMahon. The only difference was that Shane flew from the stage set and crashed onto him. This was so pretty, yet so ugly at the same time. The main event featured three of the best in many different ways. The Rock, Triple H, and Kurt Angle would give the crowd so many twists and turns. I loved the athleticism between the men throughout, including an Angle Slam, followed by a Rock Bottom. The drama in the ring was complete, and the finish was excellent. This also turned out to be a critical point in the story progression of Kurt Angle, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon. Excellent writing, better booking, and a card with heavy top tier talent.
