Wrestlezone’s Top 10: WWE Summerslam Pay Per Views

Number 1: Summerslam 2002

Brock Lesnar

If you are looking for one of the most underrated events in WWE History, look no further than Summerslam 2002. This was the absolute best Summerslam from top to bottom. In the beginning of the night, you had Kurt Angle square off against Rey Mysterio in an absolutely excellent match. It started the night off fast and also had Mysterio doing excellent acrobatics that landed perfectly on Kurt. Moving further into the night, you had two future Hall of Famers clash in Eddie Guerrero and Edge, as well as Ric Flair and Chris Jericho. The storylines were built for weeks, even a month for a few. I really loved all of the pieces that this event showcased, including looking at the future while living in the present. They got the best out of Flair in this night. Also, it was the return of Shawn Michaels to the WWE in a wrestling manner. He and best friend Triple H would have an unsanctioned street fight that led to blood, sweat, and tears. This told everything you needed to know about the guts of Michaels, as well as the endurance of The Game. At the end of the night, it was the quickest rising star in history facing the most electrifying of all. Brock vs. Rock would close the night, and would certainly not disappoint. After winning King of the Ring, Lesnar got a shot at the great one. Viewed as an underdog, Lesnar would fight Rock and even get the crowd to turn against Johnson. This was so rare in the early 2000’s, especially for a guy who was brand new. The crowd fed off the intensity of the match, and the youngest WWE Champion was crowned. This was certainly an A+ Pay Per View in all areas, and cannot be topped.
