Wrestlezone’s Top 10: WWE Summerslam Pay Per Views

Number 2: Summerslam 1998

Stone Cold

It was the highway to hell for many WWE Superstars in 1998. The Attitude Era was in full swing, and many stories were beginning to unfold right before our eyes. For the first and maybe most important time, Stone Cold Steve Austin would see himself in a feud with The Undertaker, who was at the top of his game in all aspects. With a brutal match that sparked interest from the very beginning, Undertaker would hit a huge legdrop through the announcer’s table to gain the advantage. This completely unglued Madison Square Garden. Even after a classic bout, Austin would retain the title and even get the handshake of Taker at the end of the night. With an excellent story inside the ring, with a build very consistent leading up to Summerslam, the undercard was excellent as well. Edge made his PPV debut, and two titles changes hands. The most notable part was Rock vs. Triple H in a brutal Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship. With the help of Chyna, Triple H would notch a victory and capture gold. He would dethrone The Great One, who would soon go on to bigger and better things. If you wanted to find extra great matches, check out Ken Shamrock and Owen Hart’s match in the Lion’s Den, as well as X-Pac shaving the locks off of Jeff Jarrett. From solid mid card feuds to the very top, New York was rocking all night and received the second best Summerslam ever.
