Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk
What SHOULD happen:
Josh Isenberg: I have absolutely no idea what should happen in this match. I would love to see Jericho win, but why would you bring Punk back only to lose to a guy who lost to Fandango at Wrestlemania? It makes no sense to me to have this match at WWE Payback. I would not even have this match take place. I would tease the Punk return, bring out Axel, and have him beat Jericho. Either that or have Punk just go completely crazy on Jericho.
Mike Killam: I don't know if this match “should” happen at all. As much as I'm a giant Y2J mark, and as good as Heyman has been at selling the whole feud (or lack thereof), I just don't see a premise for a match, much less Punk's highly anticipated return. They'd probably draw him more heat for no-showing in Chicago – unfortunately, the million dollar question becomes, how do you capitalize on that heat when they actually DO bring him back, in another city altogether?
What WILL happen:
Josh Isenberg: I can see this being a match of the night candidate. These two guys will be at the top of their game and feed off the Chicago crowd. The ONLY reason Punk is coming back is to get that crowd reaction. Maybe this is their way to make Punk a face without trying. Anyways, this is going to be a highly contested bout with plenty of nice wrestling spots. Jericho and Punk will end with a controversial victory.
Mike Killam: Can't you just see Paul Heyman bringing down Axel for double duty, or a surprise visit from Brock Lesnar to sufficiently injure Jericho for his upcoming Fozzy summer tour? I have no doubt CM Punk will be in Chicago this Sunday. And if the match happens, you have to assume he wins. But to what end? For the sake of mixing things up, let's say my official prediction is: “CM Punk and Chris Jericho will not have a match at WWE Payback.”
Winner: Isenberg- CM Punk, Killam-No Match
