There were some great one-liners this week for me to discuss, so let’s not waste any time.
Josh Isenberg on the latest edition of Chair Shot Reality this week said: “And why did they [fans, management?] say he was boring? Because he couldn’t talk! …Antonio Cesaro and Zeb Colter will be a perfect fit.”
I don’t make it a priority to call out fellow WZ writers every chance I get, but sometimes I find it too easy. Isenberg believes Colter will make Cesaro “less boring” — I ask why he thinks that.
The same could have been said for Jack Swagger when Colter finally joined him. Being a Swagger supporter, I had high hopes even. But someone tell me that worked to any great degree and I’ll call you a liar.
On paper, Cesaro + Colter should work. Cesaro is a great worker that needs a mouthpiece; Colter is a great mouthpiece.
But there’s more more to it than that.
Creatively, I’m not sure WWE will commit fully to correcting the issue. Antonio Cesaro was boring because of the over-exposed gimmick. There wasn’t anything remotely fresh or innovative about it and the common fan — those who want to be ENTERTAINED — were never given a true reason to invest in his “character”.
Unfortunately, they were never given a reason to care about Colter and Swagger either.
Isenberg can expect the math to work in Cesaro and Colters’ favor, but it could just as easily be argued that 1 boring character plus 1 boring character simply equals 2 boring characters.
On a side note, welcome back Josh. CSR isn’t the same without ya.
