Impact Wrestling: Graveyard For Big Names

Impact WrestlingImpact Wrestling head honcho Dixie Carter says the promotion will be signing a big-name free agent.

Whoever it is, he won’t have a big name after he signs with Impact.

Jeff Hardy: ZERO BUZZ. Mr. Anderson: ZERO BUZZ. Christian was a nobody in Impact. Impact Wrestling is where reputations go to die. Terry Bollea isn’t even Mr. Coffee. He’s Joe DiMaggio with the Pope wave and overpriced autograph. Kurt Angle will always be an Olympic gold medalist, but he might as well be in witness protection.

Bully Ray is born again. He’s the best heel in wrestling. Marks mostly think of Bully Ray as THE GUY WHO SHOULD BE IN WWE.

Kid Kash and MVP quickly denied that they were going to Impact. Hey, guys…she said “BIG NAME.” The former is 43. Awful old for a “Kid.”

Batista fairly sneered at the idea of joining Impact, tweeting, “I am a @WWE guy to the core.” Weird thing: He has since deleted that Tweet. Either way, Batista is on movie duty. Not available.

Impact Wrestling is the last-chance saloon. ECW never truly made it big, but at least you could see Paul E. was onto something.

Impact is where the old and washed-up steal paychecks. Where younger guys who can’t cut the mustard go to keep fooling themselves. How many Impact performers could go to WWE and get a meaningful role? Could you imagine goofs like Joey Ryan and Eric Young on WWE TV? How about a throwaway gimmick like Suicide? Oh, wait…Sin Cara.

Impact is what it is. It isn’t very much.

The best part of Impact continues to be the Knockouts. Not because they’re hot. But because the Knockouts are booked according to logic, continuity and the common good. The feud between Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim actually makes sense and moves from Point A to Point B. Same with the budding conflict between Mickie James and Velvet Sky.

Good booking: What a concept!
