Wrestlezone’s Top 10: Gimmick Changes to Championships

Number 10: Deacon Batista to Batista

Batista

In 2002, Deacon Batista debuted as a bodyguard for D-Von Dudley. On the Smackdown brand, this was at a time of constant main event changes. With Dudley pursuing a single’s career as a spiritual leader, Batista had no character and no personality. He was a bald and muscular force that held a box around his neck. With one punch, he was gone from television and later debuted as Batista. He became a member of Evolution and would ultimately main event Wrestlemania’s, become World Heavyweight Champion, Tag Team Champion, Royal Rumble winner, and WWE Champion. He always had the look, but it took him a while to find the gimmick.
