Matt Morgan – One Step Down
The closing moments of Impact last week were horrible. It was the epitome of everything wrong with TNA right now and why they will continue to struggle with building their brand moving forward.
Lights go out, come back on, Sting in the middle of the ring with a bat, beats up the heel group they’ve been building for months, albeit poorly, and then conflict between him and Hogan. Move on already, TNA. Please.
From a business standpoint, I understand Dixie’s desire to overcompensate when it comes to Sting. He’s the one guy they can hold over WWE’s head, although I still think that’s only temporary. Sting in WWE is still an actuality in my mind.
But take a guy like Matt Morgan, for example — he’s not alone in this category, but how long has he had to wait for a chance at the top of TNA? They’ve been building this angle between him and Hogan for months, and when they finally meet face-to-face for the culmination, it gets stalled, delayed, put off…yet again.
I know TNA’s eventual plan is to give Morgan the rub, but I won’t be surprised if he slips through the cracks one more time before that happens. It’s just what they do.
TNA likes “shiny and new” too much. They like shuffling the deck too much. And I’m afraid, worst of all, Dixie likes Hogan too much.
I’m still a huge Hogan mark, but I’ll be glad when he’s gone. He’s the Michael Jordan of pro wrestling, but even Jordan is a shitty GM.
