Cena/Rock – One Step Down
As always, reaction to the Rock/Cena main event segment on Raw last night varies. You can see great examples of that fact in the Comments section of our VOW Reaction post here on WZ.
The Q&A segment with Rock, Cena, and the panel of Hall of Famers simply fell flat to me. I didn't hate it, but disappointment was certainly present.
The Rock was good, as always; Cena was good, as always. Neither man were great, but I don't necessarily blame them for it either. Rock's absence heading into this match is big part of the problem.
Consistency is hard to obtain when one of the stars isn't consistently available.
The other problem, at least as it pertains to me, is that my expectations are higher this year than they were for the last. And my expectations were sky high last year. What people are failing to see in the middle of my negativity toward this year's build-up is that I still expect numbers to do very well.
John Cena vs The Rock II on its worst day is still worth the price of admission, but that doesn't mean I should expect anything less than amazing.
Last night's segment was long, boring (for at least half of it) – did anyone notice the "boring" chants that nearly broke out during Cena's opening speech – and it gave me nothing new in terms of why I should want to see these two fight again.
Maybe my expectations are too high; maybe yours are too low. Either way, WWE has one more week, one more chance, to convince undecided fans to shell out $65-70 for this year's WrestleMania. I don't think last night, especially with Cena and Rocks' segment, accomplished that at all.
