What’s Bothering Me: Cesaro/IWC, Bret Hart Shoots, Swagger

Jack Swagger#1. Jack Swagger’s Return

I should be happy to see Jack Swagger back on Smackdown, but I’m not even close. It seemed like such a wasted opportunity.

First, there’s the fact it happened on a pre-taped show. That’s a bigger issue, however, as I feel Smackdown should be live every week anyway. I digress.

Swagger being added to the Elimination Chamber is the other major problem I had with his return. When you’ve accomplished as little as he had before taking the time off, the simple fact you’re off television for five months doesn’t automatically make you world title material. Even as a fan of Swagger, I don’t want to see him in this match.

If he wins, it will be a joke. If he loses, he’ll be placed in a mid-card feud where he should have been placed from the start. So, what’s the point in putting him in there at all?

And I don’t care that the prerequisite for being in the match was you had to be a former World Heavyweight Champion. The other should have been: fans need to actually care about you.

His look didn’t change. He didn’t add anything special to his moveset. His promo didn’t blow anyone away.

Jack Swagger’s return was never going to be a return for the ages, but it could have been better than this. MUCH better. As a supporter, I’ll be rooting for the best anyway, but I would imagine three-six months from now, it will feel like Swagger had never left at all.
