The Main Event
Alberto Del Rio defeated The Big Show to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. This was a Last Man Standing Match that was actually pretty decent. With these type of matches, you need to throw out the pace and fluidity of the match. You had The Big Show dominate for most of the match, including sending Del Rio through a table. After a few 10 counts, Del Rio would still battle and still fight. Finally, Del Rio was able to chop the giant down, and use the steel steps to knock out Show. He also threw the announcer's table onto Show and ended up getting the victory. I really enjoyed the fight here, but a few things come to my mind.
Why did the WWE do this so quickly, with not much of a face push from Del Rio beforehand? Even Miami was not sure if Del Rio was a face or a heel, even when he tried to look so strong as a face. Second, Is The Big Show hurt? I think this is a possibility because his reign was so dominant for such a long time, it does not make sense for the immediate drop on a taped show. This just shows you the validity of the title, and that it really is a secondary championship. Even after all of this, I am interested to see where it takes us. It took the title off of Big Show, and is something I always am in favor of. The fact that he does not progress younger stars and does not compete consistently at a high level makes me happy Del Rio won the title. Grade: B
Smackdown Grade: C+
