The Shield – One Step Up
The potential for longevity with this trio just continues to rise. And not just longevity, but long-term success as well.
I’m really enjoying the slow development of this new heel group, and we’re just getting started. Plus, their incredible showing at TLC didn’t hurt matters either. The contrast in their in-ring styles compliment each other very well.
I can’t say this is true for most situations, but I think a title of some kind would elevate The Shield even further. Fans would immediately care more about a member of this group holding the IC or US title than they do Kofi and Cesaro holding them. The tag titles would work for Rollins and Reigns, too.
Maybe not right this minute, but soon.
I was one who thought their purpose could have been limited to putting Ryback over, but the fact they won at TLC seems to disprove that theory. They may lose to him individually, but the group’s credibility should remain in tact. The Shield, as a group, has a more promising future right now than any of them do going solo.
Their upside can’t be ignored, and I give them all the credit in the world for making it that way. Fans are starting to care already and with three no-names involved, that’s saying something. More time, and maybe some gold, is all they need at this point.
