(5) Tara def. Mickie James to retain the KO Championship
“Mr. Pectacular” got involved a lot, and it ended up leading to Mickie James eating the Widow’s Peak, and Tara picking up the 1,2,3 to retain her title.
There’s not a lot of people who will admit this (and that might be because I’m the only one), but I like Jesse and Tara as a couple in TNA. It sure beats the hell out of anything else they could be doing with Jesse. And I do mean ANYTHING else. You know TNA was going to utilize him in some way, shape or form. At least while he’s attached at Tara’s hip, he’s not doing, like I said, anything else.
Plus, it makes Tara’s matches more interested. She finally has a personality again, and there’s something going on with the women of TNA other than Earl Hebner and a boring series of Tessmacher matches. My biggest frustration didn’t come with the match, which was actually quite good. It bothers me that TNA completely over-looked Mickie James return in favor of pushing Velvet Sky. They did so on Impact, and they did so at Final Resolution by playing her video package, instead of one for the title. How incredibly stupid do they have to be, to actually believe Velvet Sky > Mickie James?
Mickie James has beaten Trish Stratus. Velvet Sky has beaten my interest to death.
(6) Kurt Angle, Wes Brisco, Garrett Bischoff & Samoa Joe def. Devon, DOC and two masked members of the Aces & Eights
The match ended with chaos and eight guys beating the hell out of each other. Brisco actually saved Kurt Angle, who got the win after an Angle Slam.
First of all, I’d just like to say this was a way better match than I had expected. Whoever booked the match was smart enough to downplay Garrett and Wes, and let the two veterans work the majority of the match. The same goes for the side of Aces & Eights, who had DOC and Devon work most of the time. The crowd was pumped for Wes Brisco – something I do not understand at all – and his limited involvement was solid, in terms of in-ring work. From what I remember, Garrett hit a DDT and that was his big contribution to the match; again, good move. I have nothing against either rookie, I just appreciate that TNA let the veterans carry the action, and that paid off when the crowd got behind the match.
And now that I’ve sufficiently praised TNA for the match itself, I get to yell at them for being stupid.
WHY!? Why did they not follow through with the most obvious heel turn I’ve ever seen? Was it because the fans knew it was coming? Was it because we’ve known Garrett has been under one of the masks for several months? I really hope for the sake of TNA’s credibility, that they didn’t make this move completely out of spite for the IWC. Because if that’s the case, and they’re just standing on the sidelines sticking out their tongue…great job. You fooled me. You proved me wrong, that I can’t just predict your every move. You win. Your prize: I’m not buying your next pay-per-view.
Here’s the thing…you can’t “fool” the internet by doing NOTHING. In fact, the only thing more predictable than the heel turn, was TNA doing NOTHING. It’s what they’ve been doing for three or four months now. Random attacks that ultimately lead to the same thing, week after week. The ONE GOOD THING the Aces & Eights have done was get into bed with Bobby Roode, and they even managed to piss that away tonight as well.
Good match TNA. I enjoyed the 4-on-4 for what it was. And you know honestly, I was foolish for assuming we the paying customers would actually get to see some storyline progression. It was clever of you to “swerve” me, by doing absolutely nothing.
