The Undercard
D-Von defeated Samoa Joe to win the Television Championship. This was an odd match to see for a few reasons. D-Von really does not need a championship title, especially one with little to no meaning in the TV title. Many people will argue it makes sense because he never lost it, but he is a different character on a different path. This does not solidify him in any means. The match was decent between the two bigger opponents, with Joe able to ground the quick strikes that we can seen time and time again from D-Von. A distraction comes when a blonde woman distracts Joe, and D.O.C hits Joe with a hammer. This gives D-Von the victory. I am really am confused about this whole match, where it will lead, and how this makes Aces and Eights more important. Grade: C
Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez defeated Robbie T. and Robbie E. in a very solid tag team bout. Robbie E and Chavo work extremely well together, as the timing from each move was spot on. I felt like Robbie E carried a good portion of the match early on, including a splash from the top that connected perfectly. Hernandez and Terry did what was expected of them, and that was to really use the strength to get ahead in the match. We did not get a typical ending because all four men let hell break loose. This was a smart booking decision because it does not make the beast Robbie T. look that bad, and it gives the champions a solid win so close to the PPV. I thoroughly enjoyed the overall essence of this match. TNA kept it simple, yet entertaining. After the match, Ryan and Morgan make their impact felt, no pun intended. That is all you needed to do with the challengers to keep them fresh in our memories. Grade: B
Kurt Angle defeated D.O.C via Disqualification. I was interested in seeing how well Gallows worked with Angle, a superstar with excellent athleticism and execution. Angle made him work throughout the match, even though Kurt got slowed down by a huge uppercut on the outside. With any Aces and Eights match, you must continue to use the gang mentality. This is what they have been all about, and what will continue to make them different that regular heels in TNA. The end of the match was solid, with a few kickouts after finishing moves, and then the Aces and Eights come out. They surround the ring, but Angle is saved by Joe, Bischoff, and Wes Brisco. They tease their match for Final Resolution, and that was the end of it. Isn't it obvious that Aces and Eights will win the match because of a traitor or two on the other team? My guess is Wes and Garrett. Makes no sense if Joe, who just lost the title, as well as Kurt Angle who has been beaten down continuously join that group. Grade: B-
Kenny King defeated Zema Ion and Kid Kash in an excellent X Division style match. King is so thrifty and skilled that it does not matter who you pair him against. This match had everything a wrestling fan wanted, and I will even give credit to Kash for keeping up with the young bucks. King hit a beautiful Fisherman's Suplex, as well as some swift kicks to Ion and Kash. From the beginning, you felt that the return of King in the ring would be for the better. We were able to see how versatile he is, as well as his strength for being a smaller wrestler. I want to see Ion and King fight again and again, but it looks like King has to beat RVD first. Will King beat RVD so quickly from returning? I am not sure. Grade: B+
