What’s Bothering Me: Jack Swagger; Accountability in Wrestling

Take a look at a couple things that are bothering me this week in pro wrestling. I nearly always list three things, but the topics this week required a bit more thought and consideration, so I figured I would leave it at two. Be sure to tune in live tonight to the Voice of Wrestling (starts at 6:30 EST) as Nick and I discuss some of the following in more detail.

Jack SwaggerJack Swagger Leaving?

The source might be questionable, but the rumors of Jack Swagger requesting his release from WWE certainly have me bothered. It's one thing for WWE to allow Beth Phoenix out — her incredible talents are of no use in a crappy-and-going-nowhere Divas Division — but Jack Swagger is a different story.

First of all, he's not a woman, as far as we know, so he already has an advantage over Beth in WWE's eyes.

Secondly, seriously, and most importantly, he has natural charisma, incredible work ethic, and has proven to be a "company guy" through and through. His lisp even goes in his favor — meaning, I think he's also great on the mic.

If you're a regular reader of mine, you know Jack Swagger is a guy I've always supported. I think he's wildly underutilized and with a fair shake, he could be a very productive talent at the top of the midcard. It would take a major recovery for him to go further than that, but during a time when you need stars, he could be one. And a very reliable one at that.

His write off TV made me think they felt the same way and his return would prove to be promising and enjoyable to watch. Now, there's rumblings that he might want out. I can't say that I blame him, but I do blame WWE. Luckily, they've reduced him to such a degree, he won't be missed by most casual fans.

I'm not casual, however, and I think it's crazy!
