When did fans become the professionals? You know, instead of the actual trained professionals?
I don't remember passing a class. I was never sent any certification letter. If I did, I must have thrown it out with the rest of the fake, doesn't-exist, fantasy items I receive every day.
Fans are unpredictable. They have been since the creation of their kind. There's too much proof to support that fact and NONE to suggest it has changed, nor that it will anytime soon. Vince knows that. CM Punk knows it, too. They CHOSE to ignore it Monday night on Raw.
When an innocent bystander (that doubles as a paying customer) gets hit by one of the performers they pay to see, you have to start looking at people to blame. And it's impossible to start with the innocent guy. Surely, that much we can agree on, right?
So, who is to blame? Well, I'm not sure that can be determined with the little evidence we have. And because of that fact, the question now should be:
Who is ACCOUNTABLE?
There's often a difference between the person to blame and the person that should be held responsible. It generally occurs when it's between a parent and their child, or in this instance, an employer and their employee independent contractor.
Let's say that CM Punk should be exonerated from all liability. I still can't say that, without question, but there are just too many holes within the video footage we've seen. It's impossible to tell exactly what happened from start to finish.
I will say that his statements given to WWE.com certainly seemed…"streched" a bit. It's easy to do when there's absolutely no way you can be proven wrong. But hey, it's "innocent until proven guilty", right?
If that's the case for Punk, then it must apply to the fans as well. We can't say 100% the fans said or did all the things Punk suggested either.
The security guards aren't responsible or liable. They should have been there, no doubt, but who's to say they even knew the plans beforehand? It's WWE's job to make sure trusted professionals are where they need to be in order to protect the talent AND the fans.
If not them, then who? Someone MUST be held accountable. It was a preventable situation one way or the other and an innocent person got attacked.
The last option is Vince and Co. They aren't necessarily the ones to blame for the situation, but they are absolutely the ones obligated to fix it.
Sometimes, sh*t happens. It's unfortunate and I hate it for Punk, the fan, and even WWE, but it doesn't matter. What's done is done, and now, someone ultimately has to have the finger pointed directly at them.
That person has to be Vince. It's the ONLY logical and fair verdict that can be made (with the evidence available).
