Wrestlezone’s Top 10: Rise and Falls From 2011
1. CM Punk- Rise
Was this even a question? CM Punk went from a mediocre feud with Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 27 to carrying the WWE on his back in a time of need. CM Punk would hit a pipe bomb, and completely turn his career around. After capturing the WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago, Punk would lose it only one more time. At Survivor Series, he solidified himself as the “it” guy. Many people still think John Cena is the face of the WWE. I cannot disagree, but the cool choice, the fans choice, and the choice of many would be Punk. He would get into a solid feud with Chris Jericho, hold the WWE Championship through Daniel Bryan, and come back to John Cena. He was the new face of the term tweener. You cheered for him, even when you should be booing him. He was the modern day Stone Cold, and simply is The Best in the World. Whether he speaks, kicks, or locks in a submission hold, there is nobody at that level in the WWE right now. With a flooded pool of young guys who are so similar, Punk stands out from the pack. He is just too good, has consistently rose up time and time again, and deserves to hold the WWE Championship for this long. I really do think Punk will hold it for a full year. There is too much to gain in that aspect, and not enough positives in the argument of dropping it before. Plain and simple, CM Punk has done it all in one year. He has not just won the WWE Championship, but he has adapted to circumstances and thrived better than anyone else.
