WWE SummerSlam – One Expected Step Down
It's apparently still the second biggest wrestling event of the year, according to some, and if that's the case, then I really think we might be setting ourselves up for disappointment.
For example, I actually think Del Rio takes the title tonight. If he does, I think people will be disappointed with that result. I can't really blame them, but I'll be disappointed if he doesn't, knowing we get more of the same from Sheamus. He's not doing anything for me as Champion.
By the way, that's ruling out the idea of Ziggler cashing in MITB. It's possible, but I still don't expect it. I'm just hoping he gets the win over Jericho and I'm not even positive that's going to happen.
The Brock/HHH match will be physical, and likely good. But will anything spectacular or forward-developing come out of it? I can't imagine it will; I'm not even sure when we'll see Brock again after tonight, besides WrestleMania.
Big Show will likely keep the WWE title match from being a stellar bout technically, so we're only looking for the finish to excite us. Big Show winning is the outcome that would actually surprise me, so it comes down to Punk or Cena.
Here's all I hope, regardless of who wins the match and title: one of them needs to go ruthless, nasty, and unpredictable. Raw last week made Cena look like the heel for not shaking Punk's hand. Punk is talking like a heel, but even he isn't fully committed to that direction.
Something's got to give with these two and SummerSlam is the best place for it to happen. We need something (or someone) to carry us over to the new year.
I'm not the only one saying it either; the downward trend in the ratings tells the story.
